Simple Sunday

I was the only one up for literally hours this morning...love a quiet Sunday with lots of coffee, time to knit...even better new yarn!....and a blustery rain outside. On Pinterest, I came across this image that I love. What a beautiful idea for simple holiday cookies. Love the idea of using vintage crystal glasses as a cookie press. The imprints are enchanting and would look so pretty dusted with confectionery sugar. I believe this photo is from the blog Babes In Boyland. So perfect for the season ahead.

And The Oscar Went To

I am all about the Academy Awards today. It's one of my favorite nights of the year. I grab good food, wine, knitting and look forward to an uninterrupted four hours.

Most of all, I love all the movie history and nods to films of the past. I came across some amazing vintage photos of the award ceremonies on this wonderful site and these are my favorite....

Midsummer Night's Dream

Okay....it's not nearly midsummer yet but this is just magical...how I would love this backyard! The last couple of days, I've been dodging raindrops and working on my potting station, plants and perennials. I'm dreaming of a cozy area with a vintage vibe...perfect for music and reading. What's on your playlist? I'm addicted to "Of Monsters and Men"...

Long, cozy days...

Remember when you were little and days used to feel like they lasted forever? I want my girls to step away a bit from all the running here & there and have a moment to simply enjoy that feeling of contentment.

I'm still working on my youngest daughters room, removing any clutter and adding sweet, cozy touches. I love simple accessories that have a great vintage vibe to them. I was excited to come across Bramble & Oak on Etsy....this shop is amazingly charming! The artist lives in Ireland and uses upcycled materials to create her treasures.  Happy Friday....may your weekend be long & lingering! xo

I love the knitted detailing of the hat and scarves!

A Fever Pitch

Is anything gathering more style attention right now than The Great Gatsby? Soon to be released nationwide in United States theaters, the Great Gatsby is influencing everything from clothing & accessories to hair styles to even beautiful decor in hotels suites at the Plaza. Beaded vintage purses have never been hotter and though there are many replicas out there.....with a little patience and searching you can find stunning originals. Antique stores and estate sales are always places where you may come across a beautiful collection of bags. Etsy has many vintage sellers as does Ebay. If your searching for authentic bags online it's helpful to search under "flapper bags". There should be a detailed description of the bag and it's estimated age. One great source  is the shop  "Decades Vintage on Etsy". Things to look for: A secure clasp. Vintage bags are small and usually fit only your essentials. You don't want to lose something important due to a faulty clasp. Look carefully at the bead work. The tiny glass seed beads on vintage bags are hand sewn. Inspect the bag for beads that are missing or rows of beads that are starting to lift off. I have found the quality and workmanship of vintage bags to be outstanding and it is fairly easy to find bags from the 1920's and 30's still in wonderful condition. Happy Weekend! xo

I love the copper toned glass seed beads and the framework of this bag!

This bag can be found in the shop "Decades Vintage on Etsy".

Just amazing!

A Vintage Vibe

I am in love with fashion influences from the 1920's - 1940's era. I love the way this style is continually reflected in fashion today. Whether it be the current huge success of Downton Abbey or the constant presence through the years of Chanel, this influence is so inspiring right now.

I love antique shopping & coming across great fashion finds. I have a small collection of vintage handbags that are my favorite going out pieces. This silver antique bag is completely hand crafted in Japanese seed beads. The white and silver is a great combination with the gold clasp. It's perfect with everything from cocktail dresses to skinny jeans.
Love the simple timeless design of the beadwork.

Hotel Vintage

I love putting thought into setting a great table for a casual meal or get other. Whether a Saturday night meal or book club, unique linens and silverware set the tone for the evening. My favorite addition to entertaining is vintage silverware. I love coming across hotel silverware from the 1920's and 30's. You can find pieces at estate sales, auctions, online or in tiny antique stores.  Some have a beaded trim, others are monogrammed...most are finely inscripted with the hotel name of where they were used. Recently, I bought a grouping from the Hotel Statler. They are amazing. I started to polish the silver this morning and they just come to life. This hotel is a landmark in our area. I also love the pieces I purchased because they are monogrammed with an "S"...which bonus for me....is also my initial! They just hold so much history. You can completely imagine them being used at dinners with big bands and swishy fringed dresses! xo
