Spring Project

Spring is such a busy season and the more hectic our schedules get the more I need quiet moments to balance things out. I really appreciate a good knitting project this time of year. I don't feel rushed and these projects really center me.  I purchased three yarns last week and I'm really excited with the combination of tone and texture. I'm using a great ribbing pattern that is soft and perfectly drapey. The yarns I grabbed are: Cascade EcoDuo, Cascade Kid Seta Noir in a  shimmery dove grey and Kid Seta Noir in a shimmery cocoa color. Happy Knitting...xo

Warming Trend

We had our second blizzard of the season here yesterday. The snow has finally stopped but the nearly subzero temps continue. It's March....there just has to be warmer days ahead! I found this great free pattern for fingerless gloves. Perfect for days that still hold just a bit of a chill. These gloves are knit with Cascade lana d'Oro yarn....a great blend of wool and mohair. Take a peek here for info on the pattern and great artist who created them! Happy Knitting! xo

Sweet Idea

I am all caught up in mohair yarn lately. I love the drape of a cozy wrap and the softness and texture of combining mohair with a chunkier yarn in my scarves and cowls. Yesterday I bought some amazing Cascade Kid Seda yarn in a dove grey....so pretty! My local yarn store, Have Ewe Any Wool, has such a fantastic selection! I could shop & chat for hours.

I love coming across free patterns and this is one of my new favorites! "Candy" (by Maanel) is a beautiful triangle wrap I found on Ravelry. What's super great...you can knit this in either laceweight or Aran. Instructions are given for both. It's a top down wrap that is seamless. The colors are completely perfect! Happy Knitting! xo

love the detailing on this!

A Sense of Community

There are some yarns that I love knitting with so much that I'm almost a bit sad when I'm at the end of a project. I definitely always feel that way about Knit Collage Sister Yarn and I feel that now about this great burnt orange Cascade Magnum super bulky yarn. I'm at the end of working on my cowl that I found on Knit 1 LA. I have been in love with this site (and constantly writing about it!) since coming across it just a few months ago. I didn't realize until this past weekend there's another related site, Knit 1 (Chicago), that is equally as inspiring! I love the knitting community...seeing different stores & hearing what people are working on. Feel free to comment on your latest creation. xo

Love the cozy, beautiful richness of this yarn!

Knitting Class Nights

Hooray.....tonight is knitting! What I love most about teaching knitting one evening a week is that so many project ideas for beginners are not difficult and yet amazingly beautiful. I have people who have only been knitting since the New Year turning out stunning cowls and fingerless gloves!

The women I teach have now been introduced to lines like Cascade Magnum or Berroco Sundae that they can buy locally....and it's exciting to see people working with such fabulous yarns! In class we talk a lot about the new found appreciation they have for artists who knit. Etsy is a treasure of talent and many students are now opting to purchase their yarn there. It's great to see the different fibers, hues and textures available. We talk a lot of the creativity and time that goes into a single scarf or wrap...and how much fun it is to support other knitters. I love the complete sense of community that comes with knitting. One of my favorite artists on Etsy, Denizgunes, produced the beautiful wrap shown. I love the color and contrasting stitches. Chunky knits are my new found obsession!

As the weather will be warming shortly, I look forward to knitting lighter weight wraps that look fabulous year round. Inspiration can be found in this whisper light wrap from Etsy designer callmemimi.
