Memorial Day Weekend

There was a time 9 years ago....though it feels like another lifetime....when my spouse was deployed to Tikrit in Northern Iraq. He was a JAG prosecuting war crimes. For two years I was home alone with two babies. During this challenging time, I was very focused on yoga and knitting to stay relaxed and healthy. Both helped tremendously....they made a world of difference. So, this Memorial Day I thank those who are currently serving our country and those who are at home raising families. God speed for a safe and fast return. xo

If you are knitting this weekend, I have found a great fingerless glove pattern! It is one of those ideas that's genius...it never crossed my mind to do fingerless gloves like this until I saw this idea on the Shi Bui website. Beautiful! A general free pattern and gauge is included...just size it as needed.

Love these...knit on circular needles!

  4. Karen, I feel silly for asking but how do you get the pattern? I looked on their site and also on Ravelry, and found the listing with specs but no instructions. Do you need to create an acct on their site or buy it? I wrote to the company but never heard back. Alanna C.

  5. Hi...not silly at all...I went off the specs. I have a 7 inch wrist so I plan on casting on 32 stitches on size 6 US circular needles using the yarns indicated. The length is your own preference. As far as the ribbing, it does not look exact. So I am planning on alternating every half inch (stockinette/reverse stockinette) ending in 1.5 inches of stockinette stitch at the top. For the thumb (which was not included in the instructions) I'm following this tutorial: http://knitting.about.com/od/mittenpatterns/p/fingerless.htm Does this help a bit?? xo

  7. This helps a ton - my many thanks. These look so cozy & the warmth & softness of it caught my attention. Fingerless gloves and socks are on my list of things to try. I am looking now at a sock pattern by Kate Atherley. She's a masterful pattern writer and her enthusiasm for socks is contagious. Thanks again Karen. Alanna C
